At Mama Earth, our primary goal from the start has been to support local, small farms with
fair prices. We work with partners that focus on sustainable agriculture.
How We Define Sustainable Agriculture
Adheres to the tenets of organic models as well as preserving or enhancing biodiversity (both of the
crops and the surrounding ecosystem).
Provides a stable, long-term business for the farmer. We encourage our farmers not only to have
diversified crops, but also diversified market streams.
Enhances the connection both of consumers to their food, and the people who grow it; as well as the
farmer to the consumer and their preferences and perspectives.
How Our Relationships Work
We Prioritize Local
We buy produce first and foremost from local organic farms; paying a fair price, not necessarily the
marketor wholesale price but more in line with each farm's cost of production.
We Collaborate With Farms
Each winter we meet with farmers to discuss what crops they might grow, commit to purchasing a
certain amount of these crops and guaranteeing a fair market or higher prices.
We Respect Our Farms
We try to balance what every farm is growing so they're not competing with each other through the
season. Every farm has crops that grow really well for them, and others that don't do as well in
their specific micro-climate.
We're Always Trying New Things
We strive to increase the diversity of what we can offer to our customer base by working with our
try new crops (hey there, Dragon Tongue Beans and Cucamelons!).
