Basil is an herb commonly used in Italian and Asian cuisine. A member of the mint family, basil has shiny green leaves and a fragrant aroma. Basil"s flavor is sweet and pungent. Recent research suggests it has potent anti-oxidant, anti-cancer, anti-viral, and anti-microbial properties.
Basil combines very well with tomato, wine, egg and cheese but especially with garlic. It's also excellent added to any soup, sauce, salad or pasta dish. It"s the main ingredient in pesto, try making your own!
Keep these herbs on the kitchen windowsill to make sure they get lots of sun and water them regularly from the bottom with a tray when the soil is dry. Don't keep in fridge.
