Work With Us!

Working at Mama Earth

We’re always looking to improve our team (and we’re always growing).  We’re also very picky with who we hire. People who work at Mama Earth are accountable, exemplify humility and have a strong moral backbone.  They’re also usually rational, honest and enjoy challenging themselves.

Work towards something you believe in…

We’re focused on our mission to build a local food system (and increase diversity of crops grown in Ontario).

…with really nice, smart people.

We only work nice people.  Life’s too short to work with people who aren’t nice.

Warehouse Team Lead

The Role:

The position is perfect for an organized and energetic person who enjoys a physically active lifestyle, and likes to work collaboratively with other team members to get things done.

The warehouse team helps to distribute produce across our growing warehouse. You’ll put cases of product away in our fridges, move product from the fridges onto shelves in our warehouse, and also move product back into the fridges. It’s one happy (and healthy) cycle! But the circulation of product requires careful organization and documentation to ensure things are stored properly, consolidated without being damaged, and rotated using a first-in first-out system, among other things.

You’ll also be asked to assess quality of produce, to help with general organization and cleanliness in the warehouse, and to do pick-ups from some of our amazing suppliers.

You will be responsible for making sure our warehouse and warehouse equipment is in a good state of repair, as well as maintaining a constant awareness of safety along with a clean and safe warehouse

As team lead, you’ll both be part of the team doing the work and also coordinating the activities of your teammates on the floor, ensuring things are happening properly and efficiently. You’ll be supported by our Management Team and others in the organization.

The perfect candidate will be:

  • Passionate about our mission to build a better local food community
  • Able to work at a consistently fast pace without oversight
  • Experienced at managing people (bonus points if this was in a fast-paced environment like a warehouse)
  • Be physically fit and enjoy being active including the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lb boxes
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and stay on schedule
  • Positive, pro-active and able to face a challenge with a smile
  • Reliable and punctual always
  • Detail-oriented
  • Self-directed: Able to work at a high standard with minimal supervision (and within time limits)
  • Solutions-oriented
  • Interested/knowledgeable about food and cooking (especially produce)
  • Have a general maintenance knowledge
  • Have a valid driver’s licence (regular licence) and an excellent driving record (clean Driver’s Abstract); plus be comfortable driving a panel van if needed from time-to-time

Compensation:

The starting rate is $22.00 per hour (+ discount on organic produce) + benefits after 3 months and the opportunity to work with nice people and help build a nice organization that you can believe in.

Hours:
