The early years

Heather & Alex Billingsley started Mama Earth Organics in order to source organic produce directly from local farms.  The year was 2007.  It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Our Goal:  The goal was (and still is) to provide a service where local farms are given priority and members are able to access the freshest organic items available at a fair price.

We’ve spent the past few years building a business and service that we love.  A service that makes the safest, most environmentally and ethically responsible decisions while still focusing on freshness and, most importantly, taste.  God forbid.

Planting the seeds

2007 - 2017

We began operations, working out of a garage, delivering to our neighbors once a week.

By July of 2007, with Heather about to give birth to her second child and the business taking up an increasing amount of time, the trigger was pulled.  Alex quit his job as a human rights lawyer to help run Mama Earth (and raise the kids).

For the first four to five years, our main focus was to develop and strengthen our relationships with local organic farmers and artisans.

Over the past few years, we’ve grown relatively quickly and we’ve also tried to double down on our fundamental values and principles (which are pretty much in line with the old style local food movements).

Our members have allowed us to create something really nice for our community.  We believe this is only the beginning of a much larger movement.
