About us

Owner Heather Wylie started Mama Earth Organics with the goal of providing her community with access to healthy, affordable organic fruits and vegetables.

We try to provide a service where local farms and businesses are given priority and customers are able to conveniently receive the highest quality and freshest organic items available.

We officially began operations in early 2007, delivering to our immediate neighbours once a week. We were quickly forced to add other routes and were able to find a few other nice employees with similar interests to help deliver and pack.

In mid 2007, with Heather about to give birth to her second child and the business taking up an increasing amount of time, Heather's partner took a leave from his job as a human rights lawyer to help out full time (they now split their time running the business and stayng home with their children).

We believe that running a socially and environmentally responsible business for the benefit of the community is not contradictory to running a successful business.

We're devoted to being part of a sustainable food system and in order to reduce transportation related environmental impacts, we ensure that produce is purchased locally first. Happily, this practice also supports local families, a cleaner environment, and ensures that the produce retains the most nutrients. Win-win for everyone.

Our Focus

Our first priority is to provide the freshest and best-tasting items available.

We also work with other small local businesses and artisans with similar principles and values (examples include St. John's Bakery, The Remarkable Bean, Millbank Cheese) to provide other selected organic and natural foods to our customers. Our customers also play a large role in influencing what we should and shouldn't offer.

We try to adhere to the principles and values of the initial founders of the organic industry (before the definition became increasingly watered down as larger corporations made their way into the industry).

This philosophy is also consistent with our attempts of working only with local Ontario businesses/farms when possible. With most foods, we look to items with the least number of ingredients and try to stay away from mass produced items if possible.

Supporting Local Farmers We try to help people who may not have the time to travel to local farms or farmers' markets to support local farmers and their families. When the produce is absolutely not available locally, we attempt to import the freshest produce that travels the least overall distance to get to your doorstep. Unlike supermarkets and grocery stores, we make sure family farms always take priority over factory farms.

Sustainable Business Practices We believe our business practices should be a reflection our belief system. As a result, we make every effort to ensure that sustainable and environmentally responsible choices are always made.
